It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Larkridge Church will be officially closing it's doors effective May 1, 2009. On the very surface, this may seem like a time to mourn, but we assure you it is not. It is sad that the Church that we loved so much will be only a memory, but let us not all dwell on what was lost and instead what God has done.
Many of you can remember Larkridge Church's humble beginnings, being a Church that had no permanent home. You probably remember that we had an unofficial catch phrase: "We would love to have you, if you can find us!" Those days we were all on fire and full of hope for what Larkridge would become. Only God knows the impact that "traveling church" had on peoples lives. We may never know how many lives were touched at that time, how many people encountered God in that gym in Broomfield or the hotel in Westminster, or how many souls were won in the name of Jesus Christ. None of those things are reasons for mourning.
Most of you can remember when we finally found a semipermanent home at Vista Ridge Academy. The brothers and sisters in Christ we met in the form of the staff of Vista Ridge and their support could not be ignored. The renewed love and strength for what was happening with Larkridge, the incredible amount of children that crowded the classrooms and hallways, the vigor and love of all those who volunteered every Sunday Morning were all incredible examples of God's love. These are good memories, not sad ones.
No one can ignore the evidence of God's love and the power of His hand in the many mission trips and events that were held. Extreme Makeover: Larkridge Edition, the Mexico Mission Trip, Ridgefest, Sharefest, the camping trips, the concerts, the retreats, the book and bible studies, the barbecues, the youth events, the Easter services and egg hunts, the food drives, and the Children's Christmas Performances are all examples of God's Love for us and our community. Who could ever be sad about that?
Who could ignore the people that were baptized, the children that were dedicated, the many marriages that were formed and strengthened. Did you know why our singles ministry died out? Almost all of them got married to each other! How amazing is that? Nothing to mourn there either.
Many of you can remember the struggles we had with launching our new website, that started out not working as well as we hoped, but eventually became the talk in many Church circles and an example of what could be done in other small Churches with very little budget. A Church as small as ours offering video and audio versions of the messages online? Unheard of! Did you know that we had a strong following in other states, based alone on our audio, and video messages and our Podcast? We reached people we haven't even personally met! That's certainly not sad.
There is no way for us to count the lives that were impacted by Larkridge Church. Only God knows that reality. For that matter any one of us could have had an affect on someone that walked in those doors. Only God knows that person, because of you, ran to their Father, and all you did is smile and say, "Welcome." How many suicides or divorces were avoided? God Himself only knows those numbers. That is a reason for praise, not sadness.
Larkridge Church has closed, but God is still very much alive and so is His Church, His Bride. We are now but a family that, like many families, has scattered to different parts of the world to continue to do His great works and introduce the lost to they're Heavenly Father. Sure we had plans for Larkridge, but the worst plan of Jesus Christ is far better than our own very best plan. This is an exciting time! God has such a plan that is so good, so huge, so important for each and every one of us, that the only way to make it happen was to scatter His children from their comfortable spot in a Gym in a school in Erie. Believe it or not, this is a good thing! Again, no sadness.
So what happens with what is left of Larkridge Church? The site will remain here with all the video's of our journey. All the audio and video messages will remain. Old audio messages going all the way to the beginning will be published once again. Our hope is that these messages, testimonials and videos will continue to inspire people to find God's dream for their life and live it out. It is also our hope that if you're ever in doubt about your importance in God's Kingdom, you look here for reminders. You are all loved and we wish you all the best God has to offer.
So to all our brothers and sisters of Larkridge Church, past and present, take heart. The journey has just begun and exciting and wonderful things are about to take form. Don't mourn, remember fondly what has been done in His name, and take hold of God's next exciting adventure for you. We love you all.
In Jesus' Name
Amen!
Larkridge Church Staff and Leadership
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
